Echinocactus grusonii var. brevispinus is a popular cactus which produces a spherical globe in the early growth. This changes to a barrel shape gradually as it matures.
- The stem of this cactus is pale green and heavily grooved with many areoles sprouting outward short corky golden spines.
- The plant name 'brevispinus' comes from the Latin word for shorter spines.
- It differs from the Golden Barrel cactus (Echinocactus grusonii) by its short spines.
- Will eventually reach a height of up to 90cm in both height and spread.
- Flowers are produced from the end of spring to summer on larger, mature specimens which receive ample sunshine. The flowers form a circular ring at the top of the plant.
- This large plant is growing in a 15cm pot.
